A difficulty a day...

Months ago, I began to think in earnest about my notions surrounding struggle. Actually, what happened was that I asked myself why everything has to be so fucking hard. Why, with as much gratitude as I have for the changes in my life and my daughter’s life, was I finding it so hard, still, to be a wife and a mother and a friend and a writer and, well, just about everything.

This week is Mental Illness Awareness Week, and a great time to think up one idea you could do to help eradicate the stigma associated with mental illness or to advocate for a friend or family member.

Twenty percent of youth ages 13-18 experience a mental health condition in a given year.

Just Finished

There's so much great stuff in this book I'm going to write two posts about it.

First, I want to employ Dr. Siegel’s help to address a couple of questions I received on the Just Finished post I wrote about empathy and Paolina Milana’s book, The S Word. I provided the following definition from the NAMI Family To Family material:  Empathy is “The intimate comprehension of another person’s thoughts and feelings, without imposing our own judgment or expectations.” The questions were specifically related to judgment.
